How it all began? Alumni MBA Radovljica success story!


Our success story begins in 1993. After discovering that there are unsatisfied needs in Slovenia for managers to have up-to-date globally competitive knowledge and skills, Janez Prašnikar, PhD., and his colleagues designed an MBA programme for current and future top managers. In collaboration with top business schools in the world and leading experts in MBA studies, the programme was designed in a way to provide the students analytical skills, relevant managerial tools for environment analysis and decision making. Moreover, the aim of the programme was to train students to work intensively in multi-cultural and extremely competitive environment.



The first generation of MBA Radovljica students enrolled in the programme in 1993/1994. Study programme was primarily designed as a campus type of study. Students lived together in a beautiful environment of historical tourist town, Radovljica, surrounded with mountains and all the other natural wonders of the Gorenjska region. Students were enjoying the comfort of Grajski Dvor Hotel, where each student had a room with a bathroom and could use the gym, sauna and swimming pool facilities. The classes were held in special parts of Intertrade Center, easily accessible from the hotel. Yet, the costs of the studying in Radovljica were incomparably higher than fee for the programme today and students mainly gained scholarships from companies in order to attend the programme. Students were working hard, yet they had a great time and many still refer to their study experience as one of the most valuable in their life. Also the programme logotype »R« is derived to honor its beginnings in Radovljica.

Later, the MBA Radovljica was moved to the Faculty of Economics, University in Ljubljana (FELU) and was renamed to IMB (International Full-Time Master Programme in Business Administration). The was done in order to show the changing structure of the student profiles that enrolled in the programme, as many more foreign students became interested in the programme. Apart from the change of its location, the programme has undergone a few more changes:

  • The first few generations were male dominant, however, over the years more and more female students enrolled in the programme
  • Foreign students were increasingly interested in attending the MBA Radovljica programme. Around one third of the students come from abroad now, from countries such as the United States, Canada, South Africa, Finland, Germany, France, Portugal, Austria, China, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia Montenegro, Kosovo, Kazakhstan and Moldavia.
  • Due to the changes in the Slovene educational system, younger students started applying to the programme. In majority, IMB students are now young, talented and ambitious people with or without working experience.



The MBA Radovljica Alumni was initiated by the first generation of students with the aim to instigate and enable inter- and intra-generational connections and relations even after the study. The Alumni was established in 1996 and has since then regularly organized social and professional events, lectures, company visits and has even issued its own publication, Retro magazine.



During the 22 years of its existence, the IMB turned into one of best and most sought after programmes in the local and broader business environment. Our graduates enjoy good international reputation of being skilled, knowledgeable, hard-working and ambitions in the eyes of employers. Many students, who finished the programme, have reached top managerial positions in influential companies.


Being an IMB student is an honor with an obligation to work hard, play fair and defend the good reputation of the programme.
